Our Story

Inspired by heritage, Old Henly is our way of preserving a connection to our roots — a time and place when everything moved a little slower — while looking forward to new experiences shared together.
For us, honesty, community, and doing things the right way are what it’s all about. We believe a good knife is a tool that plays a part in bringing people together, whether it’s preparing a meal, harvesting game, or whittling around a campfire. We strive to create the kind of quality knives and goods we would want to own and use ourselves, so that you can feel confident making Old Henly a part of your stories too.
Who We Are
We’re native Texans with an impulse to create. More specifically, Paul Vercher and sons, Brady and Brody Vercher. Our journeys have taken us in different directions, but our family roots in Henly, a little town in the hill country of Texas between Dripping Springs and Johnson City, go back to the late 1800s.

Why Knives?
Sometime in 2018, Brady bought a bucket of rust — tools, metal, and miscellaneous junk — at a garage sale and asked what he should make. I (Brody) challenged him to make a knife, and to my surprise, he did. A couple of months later we all signed up for a bladesmithing class with Daniel Collier in Dripping Springs. Our results were rough, but we were hooked.

Our Brand
We wanted to incorporate our shared roots into our brand. It took a while to settle on a name, but Henly eventually stood out as the logical destination.

A Nod to the Past
The house where we lived was a family and community institution; it served as a gas station, post office, and multi-generational home throughout its existence. We drew a lot of inspiration from the above photo, including the Old Henly logotype and star symbols.

The Monogram
Our O-H monogram references a Double-E cattle brand that belonged to Paul’s grandfather (pictured in front of the gas station).

The Anvil
The anvil icon anchors the mark, which is based on Brady’s workhorse, Peter Wright anvil.
